INTRODUCTION
TO MINDSUTRA’S MARRIAGE
MATCHING
The
civilization, culture, and social customs of the citizens
are shaped by the historical background, geographical
peculiarity, and climatic- and ethnological- conditions of
a particular country. In India marriage is
considered as a religious sacrament, and it endorses
equality of the two partners in all respects till
‘Time’ does them part; it is essentially a
‘psychological’ relationship entered into with a view
to attaining spiritual uplift. In our country it is
neither considered just as a mutual ‘contract’ or
legal ‘bond’ terminable at will, nor it is viewed as a
social ‘license’ for entering into a ‘physical’
relationship for the purpose of brute sense gratification.
The
structure of the institution of marriage is extremely
complicated; it consists of various subjective and
objective factors of a heterogeneous nature. Certain
factors like family background, social status, financial
affluence, physical appeal, educational accomplishments,
professional attainments, etc can be easily viewed from
outside; and decisions are often taken by basing on these
external factors. To worsen the situation, modern
socialistic theories have been increasingly advocating
companionate marriage and encouraging love affairs –
whereas history is replete with the sad stories of highly
respectable persons whose lives had been miserable only
because of gross dislike between husband and wife.
There
are a host of factors – which cannot be viewed from
outside, as these remain latent but will surely come to
surface sooner or later; one or more of these factors may
and can exert their dysgenic influences. In our country,
marriage is a ‘once in a lifetime’ event in most
cases; and a normal healthy couple – if both of whom are
endowed with good longevity – is likely to spend about
half the duration of their lives by remaining close to
each other. As such, unwise speculative experimenting with
life can prove to be very costly – even tragic. This is
where Astrology steps in for offering a great boon –
which many other sciences and pseudo-sciences cannot –
inspite of all their pretensions; since it is the only
subject – which can delve into unfathomable depth, and
shed light to the darkest corners. Before finalizing
marriage, astrological judgment of compatibility between
the two partners is not only very necessary – it is
absolutely essential.
In
recent times, some sociologists and pseudo-psychiatrists
have been unnecessarily exaggerating the importance of the
sex element in marriage. It is true that in such a
relationship, this is definitely an important factor; when
dispairity on this count sets in marriage, life appears
lacking luster and charm, and incessant friction between
the couples causes undue strain on the relationship.
Astrological judgment duly takes this factor into account
without needing biochemical testing or clinical
dissection. It is judged not only under the ‘Yoni’
koota agreement, but also by considering the placement-
and disposition- of certain planets – chiefly Mars and
Venus – in certain houses (mainly the 7th). It is
interesting to note that the term ‘Yoni’ indicates
‘intrinsic nature’ (not sex). The pseudo-psychiatrists
consider sex as ‘the most important biological
function’ – which had been propagated by Sigmund
Freud; but astrology considers it as a ‘vital force
capable of being directed through creative channels’ –
which is quite akin to the realization of illustrious Carl
Yung.
Contrary
to the popular belief, matching of horoscopes of a
prospective ‘pair’ is not at all an easy job. It
necessitates profound learning in various branches of
Astrology and several years of practical experience as
well. For ascertaining the extent of compatibility between
the two charts, an Astrologer must possess the expertise
to analyse the personality pattern of both the
individuals. Entrusting such an arduous task to an almost
ignorant family priest, or a learner- or student- of
astrology, or an ill-informed amateur enthusiast, can
justifiably be compared to risking one’s life or limb by
getting a major surgical treatment performed by a vain
jackdaw ‘quack’.
The
much popularized snapshot method of Koota-agreement (Melapak/
Gun-milan) is neither a deterministic factor, nor does it
actually deserve that much of importance – as being
unjustifiably attributed to it nowadays by too many
irresponsible persons – who are governed by vested
interests; they wish to hide their own ignorance, make a
few bucks quickly by rendering almost no ‘service’,
and still go on pretending that they are obliging people!
Willingly or unwillingly, remaining oblivious to the
intricacies involved in marriage matching may and can
bring in disastrous results.
Marriage
matching is in fact a very complex and lengthy process; it
consists of a number of aspects of varying degree of
importance – which must necessarily be judged before
checking the popular ‘Koota-agreement’ (or Melapak/
Gun-milan). In any field, it is a well-known fact that the
easiest, quickest, or cheapest way is seldom found to be
the best path to follow. It would therefore appear highly
reasonable to any intelligent person that since the Koota-agreements
depend on the position of Moon only, over-dependence on
this method can only lead one to have the legendary
‘blind man’s view of the elephant’!
A
person’s nature, outlook, and various other important
characteristics cannot be satisfactorily gleamed just from
the position of Moon in isolation – in Rashi, Nakshatra,
Nakshatra-Charan, etc; although certain psychological
traits could be assessed from it nevertheless. As such,
for concluding in respect of ‘compatibility’ between a
‘pair’ of persons, each of the two horoscopes should
be judged from various possible angles; and only a
learned, competent, and conscientious Astrologer can
reasonably be expected to be capable of doing justice to
such an assignment.
In
this work, we have tried our level best to consider
everything about marriage from various possible angles. We
earnestly expect that not only the general readers and
astrology students, but also the practicing astrologers,
will find the work informative and useful. It will save a
lot of time and labour, and within seconds it will deliver
a lot of information – some of which might attract the
user’s attention, and demand special consideration.
If
the work is found to be capable of serving the intended
purpose, we will consider ourselves amply rewarded.
Looking forward to receiving constructive criticisms and
suggestions for modification/ alteration/ addition/ newer
incorporation, etc we remain.
